Tying Spectra to the HH Rope

Does anyone know a knot that can be used to tie the spectra cord to the HH Rope, that is very strong, or would you reccomend tying the spectra directly to the Hammock as shown in these instructions- http://www.tothewoods.net/HomemadeGe...eSupports.html

    Here's a good knot site:

I'm sure someone with way more knot sense than me will help you out.
Tying the spectra directly to the hammock is ideal if you feel you can take the stock Hennessy rope off with no problems.

A square knot would work if there's enough friction between the ropes. Maybe a half-hitch on each side of the square knot to act as a safety. But I'm sure you could get all fancy and tie something much cooler if you wanted to...

Why can't one just tie the existing Hennessy rope to the rings? Since it doesn't pass in between the rings the thickness doesn't appear to be a problem. Maybe I am missing something. Does it interfere with the webbing? Just wondering since I also have a Hennessy Expedition and was thinking about convering to the ring system.

I think maybe the thicker Spectra wouldn't provide the ideal force distribution onto the rings. That setup is pretty particular about how the rings are held together - if it's not just right a lot of people have had slippage.

But slippage can be prevented by tying a knot in the webbing. I did that and have not had any trouble since. I think the knot helps keep things lined up. It is not even tight. I suppose it would also prevent one from hitting the ground?

    Sheet Bend

I would use a double sheet bend.

Click on sheet bend and it will also show a double.

It will not slip and will be possible to untie later.

The sheet bend works best if one rope is bigger than the other, but they can be the same size.

Thanks for all that. All knots will be considered. I was thinking today, and I did decide that tying the HH Rope directly to the rings would be easiest. If I choose this method, how much HH rope should I use (leave just one foot or two?)
