Need easy-release knot to shorten ridgeline without removing ridgeline

I've got a fixed-length ridgeline that came with my BIAS 11-foot double-layer hammock. I use a z-packs cuben fiber hammock tarp with doors. The tarp is sufficient to cover the hammock. However, in very extreme weather conditions -- think fire-hose driving horizontal rain, as I experienced during a 6-day, 400-mile bicycle hammocking tour this week, I would like to temporarily shorten my ridgeline to effectively shorten the hammock length, to achieve more overhang coverage by the tarp, with the doors closed tightly in storm mode. Can anybody suggest a good know for this? I would not be removing the ridgeline, preferably. I would like to be able to leave it attached to the hammock, since these types of shortening situations generally arise unexpectedly, when all hell is breaking loose and one needs to act quickly and decisively. So is there a good knot to remove some length from the ridgeline that will be easy to extra afterward? I know, I could use an adjustable length ridgeline, and I have a few on other hammocks, but keeping fixed length allows me to skip the fiddle factor in getting the length just right. Suggestions for a good knot?

How about doing a marline spike hitch or two in your ridge line with a diameter stick that shortens the length as required? When you're done slip the stick out and you're back to normal.
    Good luck,

Brilliant. I'm astounded that I hadn't thought of that, since I'm a Marlin Spike man for my suspension. Thanks. Great idea, and super quick to set and release. Hallelujah.

I use this method with a cheap WM carabiner. Roughly 1 wrap around the carabiner equals 1 inch. Easy to wrap a few turns to shorten RL when needed.

I just use a sliding knot to tighten or loosen the Ridgeline and secure it with a prusik. It is simple to put on or take off if you don't want or need it. If you don't want to remove your Ridgeline then this wouldn't work however. A marlin spike does seem like a good option but I would be careful with putting too much stress on the ridgeline.
