Maybe think about a smaller tarp than the Vertex?

Looks almost as nice as the Alpine hammock that just had a go through kickstarter. I think it's design is a bit better though and has many vents which are critical

The Clark guys said anything smaller wouldn't keep it dry -- apparently it's quite long. I'm inclined to listen to the manufacturer on this one.

One of the things I like best about the vertex tarp isn't so much that it keeps me dry when I'm in my nx 250, although it does that well...I like it best when I'm cooking and eating and moving around outside my hammock when it's pouring out. The vertex in porch mode excels here..

Yep, the Vertex is very nice for being able to drape around and close the ends or for opening up on those hot days. I've used it both ways. Keep in mind this is a Vertex hammock so it's a lot larger than the ones you are talking about.

Well -- the majority of places I'm going to take this hammock camping in the immediate future are in bear country, which means no cooking or eating near my hammock. My current game plan is to buy a lightweight hammock/poncho that I can set up away from my campsite for cooking, and have it double as rain gear while I'm backpacking. It could also serve as a secondary shelter in the rain, when using as a bivy sack, so that I could sit up and move around some while waiting out a downpour.

Just out of curiosity, 84Hanger, how long is the 250?

The differance in price would explain why they failed to mention it to Bill.!!
    That would make sense!!!!!

I'd have a feeling it was more akin to 'a person looking for an NX-270 is probably going to be more interested in the NX-250 (same basic thing) than the Mark II (which is a different animal altogether). I doubt there was anything malicious in there or intended to drive prices up. If that was the case they'd not have offered the NX-250 much less at a big discount when you were already going to by the pricier 270.
Another question: Were the Mark 2's ready for release and officially for sale at the time?

Not playing devil's advocate, just tossing the counterbalance out there.

I never infered it was malicious for them to not mention the marc2 to bill, he called about the 270 and that's all that was mentioned, when i origanly called i asked if they had any 250 leftovers on the shelf, and that was all that was mentioned.
so to be clear they never tried to upsale me nor did they try to offer Bill another product that was cheaper,, they dont go out of thier way to save you money or to upsell to make themselves more money.

It seems like Spencer, the main salesmen/half owner ,acts like you called him and allready know what you want.
I like that in a way ,, not pushy.
Simply put,, if you ask a question , he will answer it. Period.
I got a Great deal on 2 brand new NX 250's, one green and one camo,, I ASKED for a discount. He was more than fair.

I still love my Thunderbird and my BBXLC , they all have thier own time and place and will all be used, as far as the Mark2 goes, i just cant do it, it seems to simular to going to ground and i am never doing that again.
