Another new hammock offering from Clark: Mark2

Glad to see some innovation from Clark recently.

I think most on this forum would say that they are going to sleep in a hammock when ever possible - but certainly, for some, there are occasions where ground dwelling may be preferred or the only option. Looks like Clark is trying to bridge this gap. Personally, I wish they would provide more detail on this Mark2; specifically the difference in using it vs a current model on the ground. The hammock 'tarp' looks to be attached more like a rain-fly and I like that the bug netting can be removed completely (assuming that means zipped off, not unzipped and tucked away).

Anyway, interesting and looking forward to some reviews on it. Shipping is 3-6 weeks out.

    Pre-thoughts on this new model?

I wonder how taught the middle is in the rain/wind. If I was really using it as a tent - I think I would want an additional pole across the hammock in the middle.

Interesting. I still think one day I'd like to try a Clark to see what it's like.

It seems interesting. I like my nx-250. Found out that its pretty hot in the summer at the smoked butt hang. You can basically do the same with the NX hammocks. I set it up on the ground, put a stake in at each ,tied to the pole.I put a tarp underneath & rigged mine up 1 day. Not the best way , but its possible. No room & its low. I would think the Mark2 has a thick bottom , which would add insulaltion for better or worse. Either way its a cool idea.

Wow, now that is enough of a different feature set for me to consider. No mention of the bottom pockets though; I'd really miss easily reachable hanging storage.

First impression, especially with the video? "Someone put a rope on either end of my Eureka Solitaire!"

Honestly? I like it. Then again, I've been very happy with my Vertex and was thinking about going for the NX270 soon for solo-duty.

For those wanting additional information, Clark has added a page to their website with additional information comparing the Mark2 to other Clark hammocks:

Interesting, after the 270 came out i went and broke down and decided i would spring for one, Spencer the salesman offered me a great deal on 2 brand new left over 250's so my wife and i both got one, they can also go to ground in a pinch but they still cost alot more than the new mark2,, i wonder why it's so much cheaper??
The differance in price would explain why they failed to mention it to Bill.!!

I've just ordered one. It's pretty much everything I want in a shelter. I was looking hard at the Lawson Blue Ridge, but this is American made, and the reviews on all the other Clark hammocks are so stellar I decided to take the plunge.

The only thing I'm worried about is the rainfly. I almost ordered a tarp to go with it -- the guys at Clark recommended the Vertex to guarantee a dry sleep -- but I'm going to see how claustrophobic it is with the standard tarp before I throw another $150 at it. Plus, I'd like to use it backpacking, and I think adding another 18oz to an already heavy system would be a bad idea.

I'll report back when I have it in hand.

This looks really cool, I'm considering this system for myself. Great price point for a Clark. However, I'm thinking that the standard tarp is not going to work very well for hanging. I would delete the tarp and just use my WB Mamajamba, which would provide great coverage in either mode.
