Made a quilt for a good friend who will be traveling in Africa for the next six weeks. It's winter weather there now ( by Texans considerations anyway ) and temps will be in the 30's at night. She's a cold sleeper so I decided on a 20° quilt.
It was my first time trying something with an extensive pattern.
The printed fabric was found at Hancocks fabric. I used 850 fill from Wilderness Logics and made a smallish pillow out of the fabric and filled it with the down to test for leaking. I roughed it up, stuff it in sacks- pretty much everything that would happen in a quilt form for a couple of days and found no issues with the down leaking.
The green fabric is 1.0 HyperD and the Olive Yellow is the 0.66 Membrane both from RipStopByTheRoll.
Turned out pretty great. The Membrane is real nice. It looks all stretched and crooked in the pictures but it's not- the noseeum baffles are just moving it. 16hrs!
Enjoy!
Build-
Squares all laid out-
Everything sewn together-
Laid the top, inside and noseeum down to cut out pattern-
Cut out-
Cut out baffles-
Used painters tape as a guide for sewing on baffles-
Baffles sewn on top layer-
Same thing for inside layer-
Both layers sewn together-
Fill time!
Success!
Its 50" at the top tapered to 40 at the bottom and about 76" long.
It's has about 3" of loft.. ( I may have over stuff it a bit! ) I'm sure it's more like a 10°-15° quilt. I used a soft polyester around the top and sides to bind the sides. Rolled hemmed the bottom- the black binding was an after thought and I will add the black to the bottom when she gets back. ( Ran out of time ) Both the top and bottom have draw strings and snaps.
It was a fun project!
Thanks and CooOokieCOoOonnn!
