    How wide is too wide?

    Hi all,

About to press order on my 11' Dangerbird. I am tall and thin at 6'4" 175, should I go for the 72" wide fabric or will that be too much? I don't want to be swimming too much in the hammock. Also if anyone has any experience with the vented outercover please let me know what you think. Does it help with the condensation pretty well?

    Thanks!

There's no hard and fast rule for ideal width. I'm 4" shorter and 15lbs lighter than you and my ideal width for an 11' gathered-end hammock is 54". Others my height prefer wider hammocks but I've never seen anyone post saying they preferred less width than that. I hesitate to say that x" would be ideal for you but I would be surprised if you needed more than the maximum width for DH's standard width material which is 61" - 63" if memory serves.

I have no experience with the vented overcover as that feature was not yet available when I purchased my Tbird last year. I just leave a few inches of my overcover unzipped. I didn't have any condensation issues the two times I used the overcover.

Here is some some food for thought in this thread about width.

I'm 6'1" and have a 58" wide hammock and it's perfect. Any wider would just be flapping material on the sides. Since you are 6'4", I'd say 62 inches would be about right.

6'0" 200# and 11'x60" is just right for me.

But everyone is a little different.

I'm 185lbs 6' tall and my thunderbird is 64-65" wide, limited by the fabric color I chose. I wish it were closer to 70. First dream hammock I laid in was a 72" wide and it was awesome! Having said that my 64" wide is comfy, but I wouldn't want to go narrower because I stretch out when I get hot
