Glad I got my Noah's Tarp

A very versatile tarp for the price, but with all the rain we've been havign lately, I wonder in the Noah's Tarp as a boat mode?

I picked up a Noah 12 last month and will finally have the chance to use it next week. I need to get out and set it up before getting to camp to get acquainted. Have you already been out with it and if so, have any pics of the setup?

I got a chance, but didn't have my camera to take pics at the time. Had to move camp and the new site didn't have any trees to hang from.

I love my Noah 9' and my Noah 12'. Built like a tank, and both just get the job done.

Nice!!! Thanks Soul! Some of the other things I wonder about are:

-ridge line above or beneath the tarp
    -diamond or square pitch
-how to leverage tie outs without walking poles

Things like that. I have seen a couple pics of folks using a couple poles on top to pull out the sides. I need to search a little more about that as it seems a bit interesting to me.

Guess the best way for me to figure out my pitch is to just go outside and set it up. Too the woods!!!!

I've only set mine up in the two modes I posted picture of. I've have done the ridgeline above and under and I think I like above the best. I haven't had the tarp long though

If you don't have walking poles you can use sticks that you find laying around.

I started out with a separate tarp ridge line below until it rained the first time and I moved it above. Then I got rid of it all together and just tie of the two ends separately now.

I set up my 9x9 as a diamond.
I set up my 12x12 as a square. At 16-17 feet diagonally it is very long as a diamond.

Tie outs work fine without the poles if you want more privacy. The poles facilitate a porch mode which give you more room underneath. I have used a couple well placed trees or long stick off the ground in place of trekking poles, but the trekking poles sure are convenient if you have them with you.

If you google and look at images you will find many different configurations. With the extra tie outs, it can be pretty versatile.

I used my Kelty 12 for the first time a couple of weeks ago. First thing is that it is huge set as a diagonal. You will need trees far enough appart for it. Second it looked to be very well made with plenty of tieouts. I just used the pulls on two opposite corners with no RL and pulled the other corners out to tie off to other trees. It worked great and we had plenty of wind to give it a good workout. I covered two hammocks with it set up like bunk beds. I bought two of them. I love it. Good luck.

Noticed the "Boat mode" comment and got a chuckle. My wife and I utilize two Noah's 16 in our car camping setup. What I can share is that we use the tarps in our Pacific Northwest and we have rain nearly every trip no matter the month. There was a trip that it rained about ~12 to 18 hours a day for four days and by the third day the tarps were letting water through...but that is silly extreme weather and I'm still happy to call them our main tarps.

    YMMV.
