I have to tell a funny story about my yard hanging in Florida.

My neighbor thought I was weird long before I discovered hammocks, so the hammock thing just kind of tipped it over the edge. I only had two locations at my house in Florida that I could hang from. One was on the opposite side of the house from the neighbor. The other, was near his property line and somewhat close to where he parked his truck. I choose the latter one night (can't remember why) to set-up and sleep in my Hennessy.

Paul (the neighbor) evidently had to be up early the next morning; predawn. He pulled his truck to within a couple of feet of my hammock. Did I mention I'm a fairly sound sleeper? I was awakened by the sound of his truck's horn blasting about 2' from my hammock. It's one thing to be scared awake. It is quite another thing to be scared awake while in a Hennessy.

By the time I crawled out, he was laughing so hard there were tears streaming down his face. I had planned to be mad, but couldn't help laughing myself. It must have been quite a sight.
    Trust nobody!

    Welcome to the madness.

Sorry, it's too late to turn back now. (Insert evil / maniacal laugh here)

I'm thinking that perhaps we should post a "Surgeon General" type warning at the front page of HF: > Caution, buying and using a Hammock has been proven to be addictive. Side effects include: Buying new / more gear, Making new / more gear*, Compulsively testing & tweaking above mentioned gear, Discontinuing to sleep with your S.O. just so you can sleep in your hammock.

    * Also called Do It Yourself or DIY, another addiction in it's own right! <

Hi, my name is Canoebie and I am a hanger. (He said with coffee in hand, no DT's and no cigarette)

My wife and I hung nearly all summer last year outside, and our neighbors, who still let us play with their children, refer to us as "bohemians." (They actually used that term to describe us.) My wife is a sculptor, and I do all kinds of weird stuff around the house and the hanging thing just added fuel to the fire of their ongoing perplexed perceptions of us.

Have fun, welcome, and most of all, get really quality rest. The neighbors will adjust, and might, just might, still allow you to play with their children.

    30 Night Challenge

Well the first night went good!!! The wind was howling, the tarp was blowing around and I was sleeping fairly well until nature called at 1:30 am. Went I got back into "bed" my toes were a little cold so I opened a disposalble heat pack and threw it into the foot area and all was good again, until my wife called and asked if I was going to work. I must say, the gutter nails did not pull out of the ground at all and my cheap tarp looks as good as new after surviving the 30 mph gusts most of the night thanks to the surgical tubing tie outs. Tonights forecast.....mid 40's and rain after midnight, tomorrow and tomorrow night. I seem to be getting all the best testing weather a guy could ask for. Time will tell...

Sounds like a brilliant thought really. Being a city dweller there aren't many places to hang nearby, luckily there's a lally column in my studio where I can tie off to and the foot end in my loft. My housemates think I'm a little off, although anyone who would subject themselves to living with 12 artistic types,.... nuff said. Now when your done with this 30 days you can go read the ring buckle thread, there will be a quiz
