Just finished a DIY synthetic underquilt.

Let me preface this with: mad props to everyone who makes their gear! I am a fairly good seamstress/quilter but working with rip stop and 6oz APEX was quite a challenge. There are a few seams where I plan on restitching but that will have to wait until another time.
Our family lives in Texas so super warm camping gear is usually not needed but we have a trip to Colorado planned and it will be quite cold at night near the base of a fourteener. Hence, this quilt to supplement a nice sleeping bag.

Simple attachment using the corners with line locs and a mini s-biner and 1/8" shock cord. The body is hyperD and the filling is apex. I planned on using a cute camo ribbon for the trim but changed my mind and made quilt binding from the liner rip stop fabric.

That's nice. I'm looking to add an UQ to my list of DIY items in the future. Could you post a few more photos of it not attached to the hammock and the various components you used to make it?

I did not take any photos while in progress, but it is a simple 80"x50" rectangle.
    Components:
1.0oz. HyperD in black and green
    6.0oz Climashield APEX
Four linelocs to attach shock cord for suspension loops
Four mini cord locks at end of channels for cinching the ends
    Two mini s-biners
And stitched together with my ever-faithful Singer 401a which I have owned since I found it at a garage sale while in college.

Great job on the quilt, I am sure you will welcome it when visiting Colorado.

I am curious about the problems you had working with APEX 6oz and Ripstop? Please tell us more, I am about to start a UQ your experience might be very helpful to myself and others.

    Thank you in advance.

If I was to make another one, I would do several things differently:
The lightweight ripstop likes to shift around when trying to cut it so a roller would probably be easier to use than shears. The apex is fluffier than what I have used for traditional quilting so it was interesting to pin all that height into a clean seam. I used almost every pin I own to hold everything in place. I also felt that I did not need to stitch it inside out and then flip to the right side so I just put it together as if I was working with quilting cotton (silly me)... Could have saved myself the extra time needed to make bias tape out of the ripstop scraps.

Although, this was a fairly easy project and would have been quicker if my little furry helpers did not take every opportunity to walk across the quilt while I was trying to cut and pin.

    How did it work out?
    Any insights?
