Dont rule out a synthetic. They are pretty cheap and in my opinion a good crinkle tefetta is plenty comfy imo.

Definitely worth trying because of the price, but don't forget he's not looking for "plenty comfy," he's looking for "All your comfy are belong to us"

I wanna throw in because I'm following this thread with interest; After making the switch from tents to camping hammocks (and finding it so very, very relaxing. My favourite is to solo out somewhere remote and just half-snooze the afternoon away) I'm going to see how I take to fulltiming it.

This week I'll buy a stand. Found one with a 12.5ft span. I'll need to keep the bed for the g/f (hope I can convert her! She never camped, but after I put her in a hammock she said "why would anyone sleep on the ground? That's crazy.), but I may get some big pillows and use it for a daybed instead of the couch.

After lots of research I'm settling on one of the three most expensive hammocks from this page. I'll just use one of my camping hammocks until I can lay down for something nice.

Edit: while these hammocks are also available elsewhere, this site seems to be the cheapest that also ships to the land of Vegemite.

I'd love to know what you decide on. Sorry for the derail.

That was the first thing I noticed! Definitely don't do that, unless you like falling and breaking things.

I use this double-brazilian from Hayneedle and I LOVE it: http://www.hayneedle.com/product/lar...ZrYRoCAXHw_wcB

You asked about the hammock in the photo and I'm pretty sure it's a La Siesta hammock like this: http://www.lasiesta.com/CAH16-2/ possibly in an older colorway (check Amazon as well--if it's an older colorway, you can get a deal on it).

My next hammock will likely be this La Siesta unless someone here talks me out of it: http://www.lasiesta.com/FLH18-2/

If you look at the details on these hammocks they look amazing!

Looking at that hammock again, it *could* be a thick-stringed Mayan hammock like this: http://www.hayneedle.com/product/xxl...lticolored.cfm

I know that someone on the forums uses one full-time and loves it. We have some Mayans (thin strings) here and most of us prefer our Brazilians over them, but that's us. DD11yo loves her Mayan and mostly uses that. Mayans are definitely cooler in the summer. My kids don't prefer to wear much clothing, so sometimes when they sleep in the Mayans, they get Wafflebutt. Basically, their skin is imprinted with a diamond pattern matching the strings on the hammock. Everyone has their own opinion, but for comfort I like a Brazilian best.

Another Brazillian fan. I, too, have the red, double Caliente. Please note that the fringe makes them look very elegant - a nice touch indoors. Mine was $99. I use it on a Byer's metal hammock stand at it's maximum height and length but it was still too long. Had to knot one hammock end to shorten it a bit.

PS love the colors on La Siesta one.

I own that hammock. It is fantastic for a while. After 18mos continuous use it stretches out irregularly with your body weight, developing a rut. I switched to their heaviest fabric Carolina series (check gm/m2) and it's even better. I do like this company.
