    For those who want to spend some extra time out on the AT, the backpackers lot is at the entrance to the campground road. Just a couple of miles or so over to the Thomas Knob shelter. If you are lucky you can get a sunset picture like the one in the first post. Or take the north side shortcut over to the AT heading north to Wise shelter. Loops are everywhere, so day hikes and overnighters are a nice touch to the trip.
    If you are coming early (before Thursday evening) or staying late (after Monday) be sure and pay for your parking permit for the backpacker lot. This may change as we further clarify our group camp dates with the park staff.
