A week at scout camp in a hammock

    image.jpg

Took 32 scouts to summer camp and slept in a hammock every night. It was much cooler than the old canvas tents and didn't have to worry about the bugs because of my Dutch bug net. Didn't have any back pain in the morning from sleeping on a cot. Thursday night we had severe storms with high winds and I never got wet under my wilderness logics tadpole. Was one of the best weeks of camping I have had.
We're all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it, that's all.

That is awesome to hear. I wish I had heard of hammock camping while I was in the Scouts.

Sounds great Woody. I can't wait to do this with my son in a couple of years.

My first week in a hammock was 3 years ago at Scout camp. Set to go again in about 2 weeks. Last year, low temps were around 70F and it was awesome to be cool in the Summer. Found a neat battery fan to hang from the ridge line and with the cool breeze, crickets chirping and a few nice nights of a steady rain, it was 'Good Night Irene'. Slept so well. I use a Tadpole as well and that think is great.

Got back from bsa camp last week too.

I snoozed all week in the hh and one of my little dudes did the whole week in a xl traveller with bug net that I rigged at 1 am the first night.

We were heavily penalized for all the hammocks by peer camp inspections, but I wasn't about to sleep on a cot in a stuffy tent.

Our camp doesn't say anything about the hammocks. They sale some cheap hammocks in the trading post. There was about 30 hammocks through out camp.

I just got back from 3 nights at Webelos camp and the camp director at our camp assured me that hammocks were not only welcomed, but even encouraged. So I brought mine with me. Much better than those cots they provide inside the canvas tents.

And for your next camp inspection perhaps a pic of Baden-Powell in his hammock might help the peer inspectors with their views on hammocks in the camp baden-powell-hammock.jpg
