The wife and i absolutely fell in love with Watoga when we attended the fall Mahha 2 years back and soooo want to attend this.
It is very hard for my wife to get time off and Watoga is aliitle bit of a trip for us but now that the date has changed it may be possable to make it.
So i hopes there is room for 2 more just in case we can, we are gonna try hard to figure a way out.
One of the most beautiful parks i've ever been to for hanging and relaxing, mot to mention the company there was pretty good as well.
Hope to see y'all there.
It will be great to see you, Zilla. I just got back from hiking a trail there, and I was working on trails yesterday. The leaves are starting to turn now.
This is a hang that seems to be organizing itself with very little help from me, so far. I'll try to provide a little structure now. The site is Watoga's Riverside Campground, where there is a loop of a dozen "non-electric" campsites with plenty of great hammock trees. There are at least 4 sets of hammock trees on each of the large campsites, and last time the park let us spread out and use trees in between campsites as well. Campsite fees will come out of the raffle fund, so everybody needs at least one raffle ticket ($10). With big prizes and a modest number of people expected, the odds will be very good, and you can improve them by buying extra tickets. Proceeds go the the Watoga State Park Foundation. (We help maintain trails and contribute to projects like the relocation of the CCC Museum. There is beautiful stonework done by the CCC throughout the park.)
There are riverside campsites with electric hookups just across the road if anybody wants one at $27/night. There is hot water for showers and dishwashing available for everybody.
Watoga - Riverside Campground Map.jpgP1030241.JPGP1030218.jpg Saturday evening is a potluck supper and the raffle. If you can, bring a dish to share with 4 or 5 other people, but if it's difficult, come anyway, and we'll feed you.
It seems West Virginia hangers are proud of this park and want to share it. I didn't ask for raffle donations formally, but we already have five nice prizes donated by individuals, including:
- Dutchware Nylon-D hammock
- Warbonnet Ridgerunner Hammock
- WV Insulated, Adjustable Bridge Hammock
- Cocoon Ultralight Air-Core pillow
- Hand Carved wooden-handle knife, Opinel #6, by Two Tents
... and more to come, no doubt. (I have not approached cottage vendors for donations. Those guys need a break, I think.)
I'll post more details later, including a list of people coming, weather forecast, leaf color information, and suchlike. This hang probably won't be big enough to need a spreadsheet, but we can handle a crowd if one shows up. Watoga is 10,000 acres and has 44 miles of trails. Feel free to post questions in this thread or send me a PM.

Who cares about showers, gourmet food, using flush toilets. Just keep on walking and being away from it all.
There are times that the only way you can do something is to do it alone.
I would like to join in on the fun. When will everyone be showing up?

Ed, most people will show up Friday and leave Sunday, but I expect to get there Thursday, so if you can come early (or stay later than Sunday), feel free. The Cranberry Wilderness and Tea Creek Back Country are very close by, so if you want to tack on an extended backpacking trip I can point you to some nice trails.
