Hi all,

I've been a backpacker since the tender age of 11, with my first trip managing to miss watching the first lunar landing.... I've packed for week-long trips all over the middle Sierras.

Now that I'm approaching senior citizen status I find carrying my usual 35-40# pack and sleeping on the ground (with ANY pad) almost more trouble than it is worth . My last trip I have discovered light weight packing (22# loaded pack) and after a very poor night on the ground gave up and climbed into my old Byer hammock for the night. WOW, what a difference.

So now I'm looking at getting (or making as I'm the consummate DIYer) a real sleeping hammock system. Anything I can do to keep my 66 yo husband packing is also a big plus.

In addition to backpacking, I enjoy scuba diving and kayaking/whitewater rafting. Hence the moniker "raftingtigger"

Hi neighbor. I'm in Davis. My hammock system is pretty light, but more important is the comfort. I don't like bending and crawling into a tent anymore. I like swinging myself to sleep. Check out the DIY section. Lots of good stuff to make and lots of good people to get help from.

Hello from way up north near Chico. (I saw 'one small step' but would have been better off if I was camping in Shasta-Trinity, or anywhere for that matter.)

Hope this isn't as bad as my scuba addiction. I've been spending hours pouring over the DIY section and have already made my first order from Dutch...

You'll laugh. I was testing out a cheap hammock from Walmart (not bad, but not what I want either) using the entry gate poles at Sleep Train Arena on my lunch break. I was just waiting for someone to "kick me out".
