Hammock Stand using hiking pole- it can be done

Hi everyone

This is my first post on the forum, although I have been lurking here for a few months. I am new to Hammock Camping and have gotten into it so I could have a viable sleeping setup when I Fastpack.

One of the things that I have been attempting to do is have a Hammock Stand that can also double as hiking pole. After a bunch of searching for a solution, I think I might have one to offer up to the community.

The attached photos show the basic setup, but essentially, I have taken a Leki hiking pole, and with a few basic materials that many hangers will have laying around the garage, jury rigged up a Tensegrity layout that can be quickly broken down and used as a hiking pole when not hanging your Hammock. Modelled off the excellent Handy Hammock Stand, this could be a solution. More details to follow when I have a chance to post them.

The diamond-shape ropes running from the top to the bottom of the pole (widest in the middle) - is that called a certain thing? Does it prevent the pole from flexing in the middle and snapping? ...trying to wrap my head around the physics of that and what it does out of curiosity.

I have been working on a similar idea that I started a couple months ago. I am using some carbon fiber hiking poles I picked up at Costco for $30 as my poles.

Still working out the details and printing the ends for the cords on a 3D printer.

What are you using for the rods connected to the PVC pieces in the middle? I have been trying CF arrow blanks.
