Hello DIY hammock experts:
Totally noob here and it is my first post. I need some inputs. I am trying to make a hammock. I am not a backpacker and I am not concerned about weight and it is basically for use in the backyard and use at the lakes. I made my own whoopie slings, tree-huggers and got toggles from Home Depot 1” PVC pipe, cut into 5” lengths.
I would like the hammock to have a bugnet. New England is full of bugs, mosquitoes, black-flies and no-see-ums. I got the hammock material from www.tableclothfactory.com 60”X126” (right now on sale for $10, but the material is heavy ). Mosquito netting is from www.Joann.com and it is 72” width for $2.89/yard on sale (regular $3.99/yd).
As shown in the picture attached below, I am going to overlay these two (bugnet over hammock material) and stitch them together on all corners. Except the opening for ridge-line as shown. I am planning on putting a 36” robe-zipper from Joann fabrics for $2.79. (48” is also available for more $$)
My idea is, once stitched, to bundle the hammock on either ends, tie it strong and set it up between two trees. The ridge line would be inside to lift up the mosquito net. Getting in and out of the hammock is through 36” zipper.
What do you guys think of the idea? Will it work? Will it become too crowded at the ends??
Should I reduce the mosquito netting width from 72” to say 50” to reduce crumpling at the edges?
Any problems you guys foresee? Waiting for inputs, before I start stitching it in couple of weeks. All ideas are welcome and thanks for all inputs.
