    stealth tarp colors

Ive noticed my coated nylon camoflage tarp will sort of 'glow' at night when I shine my LED headlamp at it from a ways off.
However, my black silnylon tarp is much harder to find after dark with my LED. Daytime is the opposite tho. Camoflage is harder to see than my black tarp.
Ive read once that Sgt Rock preferred a solid light brown color as the best stealth color. What do ya'll think?

Someone here said that silver is nearly invisible at night.

What color/pattern camo is your tarp? Where did you get the cloth? Has the cloth been IR coated? (some camo pattern cloth is IR coated, especially some current military patterns) An infrared coating might reflect certain light wavelengths. Some UV coatings might reflect light, too.

What pattern you choose depends a lot on the areas you normally camp in. I've got tarps made from UCP(Army digital), Woodland MARPAT, and I have some cloth on it's way for making a new tarp out of Multicam. Each pattern works best in different areas (Multicam seems to work well in many different environments, though).

Certain natural earth tones tend to blend well, too...mainly different shades of green, brown and tan...so I'd agree with Sgt. Rock on that. If you're going "stealth", the main thing is to set up in an area where surrounding vegetation can help to break up the solid color of the tarp, giving you a better "blending in" effect. (Obviously, you don't want to pitch the tarp out in the open.)

Where did you find that? I see a future where my HH clone is multicam

SGT Rock is right IMHO. The HH coyote(-ish) sil tarp is awesomely stealth by day or night. At night, it fades into the background under LED light and by day, shadows from the trees give it a perfect cam pattern for a given environment.

crawldaddy, your tarp sounds like woodland MARPAT. That's a great pattern for daytime (pity the tarps is usually packed up by then). Shame about the night-time reflectivity though. I'm guessing MILSPEC MARPAT cloth doesn't do that, but it may be harder to find and a little more expensive .

Multicam IMHO is a little too light for daytime use in dark temperate woodland or rainforest, but in drier areas it works prefectly. It's also awesome at night.

Here's another vote for brown being the best. A solid black tarp stands out at daytime because solid black is not natural. Solid brown is far less obvious because of dirt, fall leaves, tree bark, and just the general muteness of the color. It isn't as strong of a color as green or black.

the camo tarp is the greenish digital 9X9 I got from Sportsman Guide. Im sure its the coating on the ripstop that is making the reflection.

I like olive drab or olive gray, but the dull silvery gray seems to take on the color of whatever it's around. I'm often surprised at how unobtrusive it can be.
