    Xlc drip loops

Just got my new xlc. Will be my first cinch buckle suspension. Ive used.whoopies.and the Hennessy lashing. I use Dutch's whoopie books that provide that water break under the tarp..Any other/better tips.than tying a small string as a drip loop when using cinch buckles? TNX

There is a you tube about this very thing I saw just recently, I just don't remember where it is or who did it. According to the findings any hardware had serious flaws and could not be reliable trusted. The only one that worked 100% of the time was tying a small piece of string to the suspension under the tarp before the hammock.

PS if anyone knows what video I'm talking about would you post it for the OP.

I find that dejoha video to be a bit misleading. It's not really a valid comparison.

I never noticed before but even the string drip line couldn't hold back the water in the video at the 5:35 mark.

The string seems to work for me. It might make a difference in the material and how saturated it becomes.

If I were still using whoopies I'd try to come up with something similar to the drip cups on my kayak paddles...I'm probably switching (funny, I haven't really hiked with a hammock yet) to lightweight straps, they're easier to use and actually saved a slight amount of weight over the whoopies and tree savers.

Derek comments about that part in the video within the comment section on YouTube... basically he notes that the drip string wasn't applied properly, and that makes all the difference; otherwise the water can jump the line.
