    Tree strap rotation

I have become a bit paranoid, a month ago I had the sewing fail on the loop of my tree straps. Luckily I have a thick head, so no damage was done *twitch twitch*. I sent away for some Dutch tree straps, which I have no doubt are quality, but my paranoia is getting the best of me. Since switching to these new straps they rotate around the tree when weight is applied to the hammock. So rather than the suspension running straight up and along the side of the tree the dutch clip and the strap slip/rotate to near the center of the tree creating a bend in the suspension. Is this a problem? When I put the strap around the tree I put it into position and pull it tight to set it in place. It stays in place until I get in and then the hammock drops. Very annoying.

The only way I can keep mine from rotating a little is double wrap. Of course this means longer straps. But I normally don't worry about it. As long as the pull is somewhat straight.

Never had that fail yet. I know that wasn't much help but all I have.

I can't be bothered with a double wrap. You know how much time that would take?!

make some 2 inch seat belt huggers.as long as you start with a straight pull they should not move, mine never do.

You must have some pretty slippery tree bark. I set up normally like you're describing on purpose so my hammock is slightly diagonal with respect to my tarp ridgeline. Once I apply weight the straps cinch down on the tree and don't normally budge. However, if they do slip a bit I just hop out and give the whoopies a slight adjustment and that normally takes care of it. I don't think I've every actually got my rig "just right" on the first try.

    I wouldn't say it's abnormally slippery.
