Another summer weight CS quilt set in the works

Just whipped up a 3/4 length under quilt to match my grey hammock. Going to hopefully knock out another top quilt to match since I gave my other summer weight quilt set to my son.

Hammock is Charcoal Grey 1.6 HyperD, and quilts are Royal Blue and Black 1.1 calendered HyperD with CS 3.6oz insulation.

About as close to Honolulu Blue and Silver as I can get.

Thanks. I was really happy with the way the hammock turned out. Seams are nice and straight and even. Ended up with a length of 10'10" from gather to gather.

The 1.1 calendered HyperD is so nice and soft. Can't wait to finish the top quilt and do some field testing.

Is your top quilt going to be climashield as well? I have made a couple of CS underquilts and need to make a TQ but need to do a bit more research.

Yes, the top quilt will use the same materials as the under quilt. I for the most part follow the DIY Gear Supply pattern except that I use plastic snaps instead of velcro.

    Punkisdead,

    Great job. Nice looking gear.

Sidenote. I have been seeing a lot of people from Michigan on here lately. And I tend to see a lot of hammocks when I go backpacking in the state. We need some sort of way to identify forum members in their natural habitat, the wild. Maybe some sort of birdcall or something.

Thanks! I forgot they had that pattern. Just used their winter tarp plan but didn't think about this. I will use this.

What part of Michigan are you from? I'm still hoping for a small group hike/hang to the Manistee River Loop.

The other thing I did differently last time I followed that pattern was to sew a channel at the foot end from the same material as the top quilt. I found that cinched up nicer than grosgrain ribbon.

I have found that too. I used grossgrain when I first stepped into DIY. Used it once and thought fabric would be much better.
In regards to your hammock length, I have sewn so many hammocks in the last couple of months I made a "jig" of sorts. I use 4 yrds of fabric, fold the ends over the jig, then fold again. Gives me a channel with 2 layers on top and two layers on the bottom of the channel. Triple stitch goes through 4 layers. The hammock ends up 11'. I use the walking foot as a guide to keep the stitches (mostly) straight.
