    DIY hammock stand

I used plans from Risk ( http://www.imrisk.com/hammockstand/hammockstand.htm ) to make a hammock stand for winter experiments indoors.

Modifications: mine is 6ft tall instead of Risk's 5ft. I used treated wood so I could take it outdoors eventually. I made two notches on the top corners of the uprights to form a small post so the huggers would work better. Total cost of project $42 and 3 hours work.

10 Ft wide by 6 Ft tall

Nice looking stand, Warmsoda. I need to do something like that for working on my hammock rig inside. I've got some eye bolts set up in my basement for hanging up the hammock and tarp, but it isn't strong enough to support my weight. Of course I'd never get any work done around the house with the hammock calling me.......

After a little time using the stand, here is what I've learned:

The stand works well for both tarps and hammocks, but you need to use weights on the floor instead of stakes obviously.

I'm happy that I made it 6' tall instead of the 5' from the directions. If your room has the space, I would suggest making it a full 12' long as well instead of the 10' in the directions. You might need to buy 2 fence top rails to get this length. I've found that the 10' is fine for suspensions like cinch straps or HH lashings, but whoopie slings have a long minimum distance and really need the longer length if you are going that route.

Thanks, that's good advice. I've got the room so I'll take your advice and make it bigger.

    Nice looking stand!

I like the built-in drawers and sliding doors in that finished attic space.
