    Howdy from Oklahoma!

I want to start with a thank you to all in this community! Thanks to the helpful advice from the likes of Shug, Dutch, dejoha, and many others I was able to quickly decipher the lingo and wrap my head around the basics.

I now have a lovely 11' PolyD from Dutchware setup with whoopie slings, structural ridgeline, a Fronky bugnet, and a blinged out CRL (which is ridiculously easy to set up). So far I have only had the chance to hang in my neighborhood park, but I still think it's worth it even if that's all the use I get out of it. I am still trying to decide on a tarp, but I'm leaning heavily towards the Tadpole. Whatever I choose it has to hold up to constant battering by this state's infamous winds. Insulation is the next hurdle after that, but I still have a couple of months before overnight temps drop below 70°F.

I hope to hit the trails in the greater Oklahoma area soon, particularly some of the beautiful country side out east in the Ouachita National Forest. I have a bit of a learning curve ahead of me, but I know I can turn to you guys for great advice.

Wow, a fellow Okie! I'm outside Talihina off-grid back in the woods. I just recently got into hanging and have been having a blast just sleeping out in the woods around the house learning the ropes. Just recently found this forum and I wondered if there were any other hangers in ok.

    Thanks for the welcome, guys!

Sustaireblues, I can't think of a better place in this state to live "back in the woods". The Talihina area is one of our hidden gems, so to speak. I just wish it wasn't such a drive from OKC.

You and me both! Welcome. Seems okies are moving right in here. You guys are ahead of me. I'm still sorting out what hammock I want to get.

Welcome from Tulsa. I have been reading the forum since 2009, and hammock camping with our scout troop since 2004. I would say, get through the summer heat before trying anything new. Late September and October are the best times for Eastern Oklahoma. Our Scout camp is in Talihina, and the trails in the fall are gorgeous. In high summer, I have heard scouters describe doing the Bohanan Death March.

    Welcome to Hammocking.

Welcome from McAlester, A little too hot to hand right now. Got to hang back in June with the scouts at Tom Hale for a whole week. Also spent a weekend hanging around Horse Thief Springs Trail. In the Ouachita forest.
