    Hello from Idaho

I guess I should introduce myself like most have. I just got into hammock camping this year (2015). I am a 50 year old boy scout leader. We just recently got a new Scoutmaster and he is very interested in backpacking more than car camping. We went on our first backpacking trip this last May. After hiking in all day in the rain, and having a backpack that was just too heavy I decided to research more on lighter gear. The first thing I found was a bunch of things on hammocks. I had never even sat in a hammock before so I wasn't sure about the whole idea. I watched a lot of videos on youtube and decided to buy an inexpensive hammock to experiment with. Well, on my first campout with my new hammock and Kelty tarp, I must say I am hooked!!! The first night was a little cold. I didn't think about needing anything under me since it was June. I found that it still gets a bit nippy in a hammock. The second night I put my ground pad under me in my hammock and I slept like a baby!!! I haven't slept that good on a campout in the 16 years as an assistant scoutmaster!! I am completely hooked on this whole hammock deal now! I am currently looking to get an underquilt, or make one myself. I found your forum in a backpacking magazine article and decided to check it out. You have a lot of helpful information here and I love it! Don't know how much I'll post since I'm sort of the quiet type, but I have already learned a lot in the first month reading this forum. Thanks for having a great place for beginners to come and research and find little tricks of the trade! I look forward to reading a lot more! Thanks for having this available!

    Welcome aboard!

If you haven't already, check out Shug's Hammock How-To: Essentials for Noobs & What Nots. Those 10 or 11 videos are packed with helpful info and are quite entertaining.
