    Video: AZ > Highline Trail

How to hike the east end of the Highline Trail. This section is well-maintained, and is heavily forested so it is an ideal spot for SW hangers:

No pictures of my hangs in the video, but here's a still taken at my campsite just east of See Creek:

    Enjoy!

Looks great. I subscribed to your youtube channel to check out your other reviews as well. I can't wait to hike the whole Highline trail in the near future.

Thanks. Your video confirms what I experienced on several sections that I have hiked, plenty of places to hang a hammock.

I hiked a little around Payson back in the Stone Age, er, I mean the 70s. Lovely looking trail. Thanks for sharing.

Nice informative video to go along with the beautiful area. Looks like some great places to hang. Got to love the sound of elk bugling in the morning.

Loved this, subscribed also! This was my old stomping grounds 30 years ago plus with the occasional visit since then. I miss it, and I have never hiked/camped that area with a hammock. Please clear up some confusion for me, in case my memory is failing me: Did you say"looking back at Promontory Butte to the east"? I'm trying to picture that old Butte where I have camped a few times on top right at the cliff. It seems to me that if I was at the foot of it and looking back to the east, it would be on my left. That shot in your video looks more like if I hiked along the foot of it it would be to my right, which seems like I would have to be looking towards the west. Please tell me you meant to say west and that my memory is not just totally shot! LOL! Most likely I am just confused.

So is this trail mostly along the bottom of the Rim, and those creeks running down from the Rim up above? I don't think I ever hiked this trail, regrettably, and all of my action took place along FR300 and north of that up on the Rim. One of my 1st overnight trips there I pitched my little TNF West Wind 2 man tent right on the edge of some butte/cliff, not Promontory but something further west. The next morning right after sunrise, as I was having coffee inside my tent while looking out to all of the forest way below, a big flock of turkeys flew in and roosted in the trees that were growing along the cliff, even down on the steeper parts. That was a beautiful, peaceful site I'll never forget. I love that area, but it has been a long time.

Hey BillyBob, good to hear from you. If I did say east, I was mistaken, because it was definitely to the west of that vantage point, so your memory serves you well.

The trail runs midway up the rim, that's what makes it so special. Great views both up to the rim, and down to the valley below. Here's a link to the HAZ trail description - if you haven't used that site before, its arguably the best hiking website in the country:

From the Highline page, you can explore all the hiking trails that have been written up in AZ and some of the surrounding states.
