Order of Top Insulation

Sorry for asking, but I have been searching previous threads all morning and can't seem to find a definitive answer. I am purchasing a Clark NX250 in the next day or two as my first hammock and am trying to now figure out my insulation situation. I am going with the new Clark UQ that is designed to fit into the bottom pockets, so my main concern now is my TQ situation.

I have a GoLite Ultra 20 that should get me through most nights down in the VA/NC area where temps typically get to the low 30s, high 20s. However, I'd like to try some 4-season camping this season as well. I don't feel the need to purchase a 4-season bag for the couple of times I'll be using it each year. What I was hoping to do was to take my GoLite Ultra and add to it, a Lafuma Extreme 600 (+45*) Link to Specs rating to it unzipped as a quilt.

**However, my question is in what order should I lay these on top of me? Do I

a. Use the 800 fill GoLite immediately against my body with the higher loft to trap as much heat directly against my body as I can and the Lafuma on the outermost, top layer, or

b. Should I put the Lafuma next to my body with the Go Lite over that so that the higher loft and better insulation are on the outermost, top layer theoretically trapping all the heat inside better from both bags?

c. Or does it even matter and it's just a matter of preference???

I am hoping that this combination would be enough to get me down into the teens, maybe high single digits. If need be, I can put on additional layers beyond underlayers although I tend not to prefer it.

Any help anyone can share would be great for this newbie!

I don't think it will ultimately matter which one you put on top. If one is wider than the other, I would probably try it as the outermost layer first.

If one is significantly heavier than the other put the heavy one on the bottom so it does not compress the bag under it. At least that's my knee jerk answer.

I agree. I always sleep with my head under the covers. I've never really noticed significant condensation enough to decrease the insulative ability.

Makes sense... but according to the product specs, they are both 20 oz.

I don't think he necessarily meant to keep your head under the covers but to cover your head with something like a fleece cap. Your breathing condensation can dampen the bag and reduce it effectiveness a little.

That is more of a concern with down than with a synth bag. Very possible with a down bag.

i would put the Lafuma on top as to keep the zipper away from your body. at zero degrees, it will wake you up.
also have a way to connect them. a little velcro or something. nylon on nylon is very slippery
just my thoughts. have fun with it.
