I can't go in May, but I should be able to go nearly anytime before then. Sounds like a good time.

4/3 is bad for me. 5/8 is also mothers day ..... anything else looks good to me
4/9 weekend attending SoCal hang after open till the end of May
Based on the responses I've seen so far with dates that don't work for several, that leaves the best possible following dates: 4/15-17
4/29-5/1
5/20-22
I'm game for any of these dates. If we go in April we can accommodate Steve Hall as he said May was out I think. April average temps for Clints Well area are daytime 70 and overnite low of 37-40.
April 30 is my vote(closer to warmer temps of May averages!)
Please respond with best of those three dates. Let's decide on the weekend then we can start a new trip planning thread, and try to reserve same spot.
What say you?
4/15-17 is my choice and 4/29-5/1 Might be possible
Thanks Rick.
Either of the April dates works for us.
At this point, either of those work for me.
Just a few thoughts. That specific site (Long Valley) opens 4/22 this year but is already booked every weekend (at least Friday night) from April through June. There were some Saturday nights that were still open in May when I checked a couple weeks ago. There is a lot of dispersed camping nearby, but many of the forest roads are closed during the winter with a tentative opening date of 4/15. If it gets cold again there is a possibility that some of the forest roads could still be closed. We can do it, it may just take a little more planning to make sure we hit one of the open areas. By mid to late May there are almost always fire restrictions up there.
I will not vote on a date yet because I know that there are a couple weeks that I am going to have to be gone, but don't know which week yet. But I would do my best to make whatever the group plans. If there is anything I can help with as far as planning let me know. From having camped up there a lot I would suggest 4/29 to make sure that you are in before the fire restrictions historically take effect.
Thanks Kurt! Appreciate the info. Maybe it's time to book the spot for a later date in the Fall and have a long range plan for a big hang with facilities, and shoot for the 29th in a different location. May not be as big a production but still an opportunity to get out. Kurt, or anyone else planning to go, have ideas for other spots that can accommodate groups? I'll investigate as well.
Most likely you could camp anywhere up there, (dispersed camping). the catch is there will not be pottys. where Im at people have big dispersed camp sites and they pay to have a porta pottys
hauled out to the camp site. just an idea. Nice idea but not a deal breaker for me if there not there. good one Kurt didn't even think of fire season.......
