Several places. You need to determine if you want a synthetic or a down quilt. The fabric for either can be ripstop nylon (starts at 1.1 oz per sq yard - you don't want to go too heavy to the 1.9 oz fabric) or something similar like "Momentum", which is a smoother nylon. Make sure the nylon is breathable to allow moisture to pass through.
As for where to get materials, including down and synthetic insulation , start by looking at:
+ Quest Fabrics (or it may be "Quest Outfitters" in Sarasota, FL)
+ Speer Hammocks
+ Thru-Hiker
+ OWF (I think it stands for Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics)
and take a look at the Jacks 'R' Better site (http://www.jacksrbetter.com/) to understand more about the quilts.
Be sure to read the forum for quilts.

awesome man! that helps a lot!!
The easiest, and also economical, is get the kit from thru-hiker.com It has everything you need. You can add 3 more oz of down to make it fatter/warmer if you plan to hang with Shug in Minnesota in the winter
Then pick a pattern. I used coffee's, nee hammockengineer, Red River Gorge pattern, but there are other patterns to chose from.
oh wow thats really awesome!
(its the down quilt kit right) ha
If you are doing a down quilt you MUST make sure the fabric is "downproof" otherwise your precious insulation will begin to seep through the outer fabrics and escape. That's an expensive jailbreak. 1.1 ripstop is NOT downproof unless it is "calendared" and youu would need a knowledgeable salesperson to know that. Ask that question at most big box fabric places and they'll probably look for dates printed on it.
A good outdoor material retailer as mentioned above would be your best bet for the fabric. The kit from Thru-hiker would be worry-proof on that regard. They'd do it right.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I found some really lightweight breathable material at Walmart for a buck a yard. I dont know if it would work with down, but for synthetic insulation its great! I designed my UQ myself, and there a few design flaws. But since the material was so cheap, I dont really care---my next one will be better! Ive never made anything out of down, but synthetic insulation is really easy to work with. What kind of hammock do you have? Also, I noticed youre from Birmingham, have you ever been on the Pinhoti trail? (just up the road a ways from you!) Awesome trail-------Im planning a trip the end of october, cant wait!

FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.
