Bad choices, lost friends, AND NEW HAMMOCK!

Been mulling over a new hammock for a while. Wondering what material to make it out of.

Well while I was oogleing over all the fancy fabrics available to make comfy hammocks I saw the extra wide 1.6 HyperD XL was finally in stock on Ripstopbytheroll.com.

    I blacked out.

All I remembered was bits and pieces of paypal and confirmation emails.
I knew I had made a mistake. I had ordered more gear without consulting the wife.

A few days later I heard a horrifying sound "WHAT DID YOU ORDER FROM RIPSTOPBYTHEROLL THIS TIME!!"

I had mixed emotions. I was terrified and full of glee at the same time. I was a dead man, but my gear was here!

Since I knew I wasn't getting anywhere with my wife, I made a date with my mistress(thread injector) and together we made a new creation.

    Here it is!

It's a simple gathered end hammock. With a finished length of 10'8" (10'10 if you count the knobs on the end).
And a finished width of 71 inches.

I think I got them lines pretty darn straight for just eyeballing it as I went.

It is COMFORTABLE!! and roomy....even with my 6"6' frame. I believe I'm pushing the limits of the fabric with the 300+ lbs of that frame, but I like to live on the edge!
This is my new favorite hammock!

Now if we can change tone a bit.

In light of a recent tragedy. A tragedy so shocking I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen the footage with my own two eyes. I would like to name this hammock in honor of the victim.

GreenBean you were loved by those you didn't even know.

So as long as there are no objections from GreenBeans companion Shug,

    I would like to present......

Looks like a winner. Be careful when you break that champagne bottle over it during the christening.
As for the wife, remind her you could be into more expensive hobbies. Just had dinner with a buddy and his wife and he told us he just ordered a $6k bicycle. My wife told me the next morning she fully supported my backpacking hobby and especially my DIY gear.
Crayons - they might look different, but they all taste the same

Congratulations. She is a beauty. Got me wanting to step out on my old lady with some of that HyperD XL.

Haha. My wife has a love/hate relationship with my DIY. Every other project or so has to be something for her.....that way she can't get too mad.

Nice job on the hammock. I love that hyperD

Yeah. My wife loves the feel of the 1.0 HyperD. When I first got some she sat on the couch watching TV rubbing the scraps on her face.

I need to make her a quilt of it for her to use on the couch.

So now it's a toss up as to which one pulls more weight. Her irritation of unexpected spending, or her glee when she finds out its would be for her?

    Nice.
Is it a straight rectangle or did you do any mods to the ends?
Looks like you have a very shot ridge line?
    Any ridge in the hammock?
    Any problems with the UQ?

I hope my XL fabric + other stuff clears custom sometime next week. My plan is to make small catcuts on the edges and a small curve on the foot end.

    Just a straight rectangle.
The ridge line is short but it is adjustable. I don't have as much space as I want in the house and the suspension points are too close together, so when its hung indoors I shorten the ridgeline to take up the slack. I haven't had this hammock outdoors yet, but I'm actually thinking I might keep the shorter ridgeline all the time. I am getting very comfortable. We will see when the big bean meets trees.

I haven't noticed any ridge problems, but I have never had any. Idk if it's cuz I'm taller than most or what, but the only thing anyone might consider a calf ridge has always lined up with my knees so it actually adds to my comfort cuz it prevented my knees from hyper extending, but that's not as prominent on this hammock.

It's got a bit of a stretch to it, in a good way. Just enough so it gives where it needs to but is plenty firm where necessary.

I love my new UQ as well!

I might need to add a clip at the foot and one by my head. If it's under my feet I sometimes slides out from under my shoulder. And if I keep it under my shoulder it sometimes pops out from under my feet. But that's nothing new. It happened with the other hammock as well. Might be a little worse with the extra width of this hammock, but not much, if at all.

When you get your shipment I'm sure you will be happy with it. Post your results!

HDXL in Hunter Green, vs 1.6 in Olive Yellow.
