    My first UQ!

So after obsessively reading about DIY insulation here for a few weeks I decided to give making my own UQ a shot. I mostly used Just Jeff's tutorial as a rough guide, but due to inexperience a lot of this was just winging it. I learned SO MUCH making this!

I still feel like my stitching was pretty awful AND you can see that I was an idiot and used a pen to mark the wrong side of the fabric, but am happy overall with how it turned out for being my first major sewing project as I've only made pillow covers, tote bags, etc. before. I was shooting for a 20 degree quilt, but may have overdone it.

    Used:
    HyperD from RSBTR in
    2.25" grosgrain
12 oz. 850FP goose down from WildernessLogics
    Pre-cut baffle material from Dutch
    Guttermann thread
    Shock cord
    Cord locks

    Specs:
    45" x 70" (I'm 5'8".)
19.45 oz. based on my digital kitchen scale.

    Are you kidding???

You did an awesome job! Full coverage, very light, ultra-warm. What's not to like?

Thats a good looking UQ. I understand feeling like your own work is no good. When I make something I see flaws nobody else notices, but to me its a glaring mistake.

Seriously thats an awesome quilt, I'm kinda jealous. Of course me being 6'6" I'd have some cold feet.

You're right about that. My biggest hobby is knitting, specifically knitting lace and I've been doing it so long I don't mind most mistakes because I know how to hide them. I guess I probably just need more experience making gear to get more comfortable with it.

That is a fantastic looking quilt. You'll learn to hide the mistakes while making gear as well. One trick is to always use matching thread. That helps me a lot! Oh, and I personally believe you can never overdo it with under insulation. Again, great quilt. Looks nice and fluffy and warm!!

Beautiful quilt! And with that color, you won't be apt to sit in the underquilt instead of the hammock! Don't ask.
