Here's a site showing how to use the binder foot that I have. The site is for a Singer Featherweight machine, but the method is pretty much the same.

I think there are some other binder foot designs, depending on sewing machine, but I'm familiar with this one only.

Edit: At 3:49 of the video on this page is a demo of how to use a similar foot.

You may find yourself very frustrated with the presser foot and the grosgrain. Not saying you _will_ but here's my concern. The foot is designed for bias tape. Bias tape is much softer and flexible than grosgrain. Grosgrain is intended to go on straight and the weave of the ribbon reinforces that tendancy. Give it a try. But if you find it is not working the way you want you might try using some bias cut fabric to make sure you have the technique correct.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Thanks for the tip.

One thing I see not working is the thickness of the grossgrain going through the funnel.

$10 -$15 isnt to bad for an experiment.

You'll find a use for it one way or another.

Agreed, thick grosgrain may be problematic; might want to experiment on some scrap material first, before tackling the tarp. ...but you probably already thought of that!
