MI > NCT Manistee River Loop or Nordhouse Dunes Aug 1-2

I know it's short notice, but I'm thinking I may take my son up to do the NCT/Manistee River loop this weekend. Won't be able to hit the Red Bridge trailhead until shortly after 12:00pm on Saturday. Still should be more than enough time to hike up the NCT side before dark.

Other plan is maybe Nordhouse Dunes instead.

Any takers on either of these?

Asked my son, and he says he wants to do the Manistee River Loop. So that's where we'll be heading on Saturday. Hope to make it to the trailhead around 1:30pm, then hike up the NCT side and find a place to hang for the night. Then in the morning we'll hike back down the Manistee River Trail side.

It's always busy up there on weekends, but more so on the MRT side. Since your heading up the NCT side first, Edington Creek is the place to hang. Right when the trail deadends at the river and doglegs left, look down the hill to your right and you'll find a welcoming forest of pines. If it's occupied, walk down anyway, make a hard left at the fire ring and cross the river. Up on the bluff is another awesome spot to hang. Enjoy your weekend.

Eddington Creek is the plan anyway. I'm thinking we'll be able to find a place to hang somewhere. It may be busy, but I'm hopeful it is a bunch of ground dwellers. Don't they know that we pee on the ground?

I usually roll in at night and just stumble into the woods after a few miles and end up in some random spot well off the trail. Love it!!

Don't worry Craig...we'll do it again a few times this fall I'm sure. This was short notice because I wasn't sure if we'd be able to go or not.

Ill be parking at the same trailhead Sunday afternoon around 3:00 Ill head the opposite direction hoping to cross your path. If there is anybody that cant make it saturday but could on sunday, feel free to join me. Ill be on the loop for 2 nights.

Heres a few pics from last time I was up there. I was only on the manistee river trail side last time. Its a great area. Last time was a group trip and we all ended up carrying a LOT. I wont be wearing a backpack on my front this time.
