New Whoopie Sling is slung on my Traveler

I was very glad to have an opportunity to purchase a whoopie sling from pgibson of Arrowhead Equipment and evaluate this exciting new option on my Warbonnet Traveler. The slings arrived by mail last night, a very fast response and shipping by Paul.

The retrofit turned out to be very easy, just swap out the existing amsteel and form a new larkshead with the end loop of the new line. I haven't gone to the marlinspike toggle yet, just gradually working my way into this stuff. I used a couple of Camp Nano 23 biners with my existing webbing straps to complete the suspension setup. Initial impression: works great! Very easy to make adjustments to the length, and no noticeable slippage at all (without a backup knot). I did notice that you need a longer distance between trees now, since the constrictor region on each side takes up another foot or so. I'd say my minimum distance between trees is now around 13-14 ft. I'm excited to get out into the field in a another week or so and give it a thorough trial. I have posted pictures below of what this setup looks like now. Thanks to Paul for providing an option for time deprived folks like me to try out these new methods.

It's a little hard to tell in the pictures but in the 2nd pic it looks like there may be at least 6 inches from the end of the eye splice bury to the whoopee sling. If that's the case the whoopee sling could be respliced to exit right near the end of the eye splice bury and shorten the hang distance some.

Great point Stoikurt. There is around 19.5" on the left side, and 17.5" on the right side that is limiting the range over which you can shorten the suspension to. Some good feedback for Paul on future product refinement.

Drewboy, glad you got the suspension changed, Looks good on the hammock on the length I have started shortening up the splice exit point to closer to the eye splice. Always improving

    Toggle for whoopie sling

Now I am getting around to the next step of eliminating the carabiners and using a toggle to attach the whoopie line to the straps. There seem to be several options out there. Is there a summary somewhere of the latest views on this? I did locate the link below from TeeDee with some of the options. I was sort of favoring the one on the right as being the most straightforward. I'm sure there are other tradeoffs to consider.

I use the Marlinspike Hitch toggle method (using a stick as the toggle), that Grizz demonstrated nicely here.

Thanks Angrysparrow. That does look very straightforward. I'll give it a try.
