    Recommendation for ultralight hammock

    Hi all,
Recently i was in an outdoor store and i saw a Hummingbird ultralight hammock. Single+ to be exact. So now I'm looking for an ultralight that i can fit in a daypack. I want something that packs up small and very compact, but it has to be a long hammock. Preferably 11 feet, because I'm 6'4. With no bug net or detachable. I have a Blackbird, but the bug net feels constricting. I know the cottage vendors are the way to go, and i was seeking any recommendations.

i heard Dutch's was the way to go but could someone post the website?

Thanks for the help in advance

There are of course lots of vendors that make single layer 11 foot hammocks from quite a range of fabrics. Your weight will be a factor in selecting which will work best for you.

A single-layer 1.6 weight fabric will do the trick when it comes to the hammock--but where you will need to see the weight savings will be in the suspension. Look at kevlar straps and whoopies (whoopie hook), for example, vs. traditional straps. Good luck!

PolyD 1.4 would also work well and be a little lighter.

I am in a similar situation… 6'3, 250 lbs and looking for a backpacking hammock. I am looking at getting the Dream Hammock Freebird. It comes with polyester tree straps (basically zero stretch), a fixed length ridge line, and whoopee slings if you so desire. The 1.6oz, HyperD 72" wide fabric has a "comfort" rating up to 280 lbs, but it will easily support a 400 lb load or so I am told. The comfort rating indicates the point at which it gets stretchy (and therefore a little uncomfortable), not where it will break. Anyway, you can get the whole shootin' match, plus a ridge line organizer and double ended stuff sack for well under $100. Hard to beat!

My first foray into single-layer hammocks was 1.1 oz. fabric. I had a couple of incidents that made me not trust it. i've since moved to the Dutch PolyD 1.4 and it's pretty reliable. I inspect the hammock after each hang and it looks good.
