    Question DIY Hem Roller?

Does anyone know how to make a DIY hem roller?

I know that I will eventually drop the money on something like this, but before I do I am interested in trying to make my own and spare the cash.

Besides... I would rather spend the money on more materials

**EDIT: If someone knows of cheap feet or a kit, cheaper than what I linked, feel free to post that too**

I'm almost positive I've seen two mentioned in these forums. One was made from aluminum sheet, the other from the plastic that they make berry containers from. Try a quick search and see if anything pops.

Yeah, I could have sworn I have passed them somewhere in my many exploratory sub-forum and thread reading binges, but I think that it was called something different, hence my issue finding them.

Ahhh ... I keep thinking I'll make one, but I get a little quicker every time I sew my own so I never commit LOL.

If you make one lets us know how it goes if you don't mind.

    I definitely will.

Now the question is plastic... or metal.

I feel like the metal guide would hold tighter, but the plastic guide would be easier to make and mount.

It takes the same to mount it, plastic or metal. Tape or screws. You will need thicker plastic to get a equal rigid tool and it will require heat to bend. Been there done that and failed but it’s not impossible Better yet, a 3D printer.

That is what I was thinking. Using an embossing tool to heat up the plastic and allow me to mold it.

I made a few with the berry container plastic and they work surprisingly well. I didn't expect it to work well but thought it would be good practice for making one out of metal, but it did work well. I just bent it using a metal ruler as a straight edge. The fabric slides through so easily. I can do a hem on a tarp almost as fast as I can run the machine.
