Hammock camping in the bay area?

    Hi all,
I am fairly new to hammock camping, and want to find a nice spot to spend a couple of nights at somewhere within a couple hours of San Francisco. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Try out the Monte Bello open space preserve, they have a hike in campground that is beyond cheap. Many Santa Clara County Parks would work but it will vary from site to site, you would have to scope out a site before you reserve. I would check out Mt. Madonna Park, definitely one of my favorite County Parks.

Yea, I've never been but have talked to a few Park Rangers about it. Sounds like a nice place to camp because it's always empty.

I work in Palo Alto on occasion and will definitely try this time I am out that way. Always looking for an alternative to the hotel. My office has showers so all I have to do is get up a bit earlier.

Not so sure about the empty. I looked at the campsite booking calendar and it says full this week?

That's sounds awesome, get to camp instead of staying in a hotel. Just looked now and I was surprised! It's totally packed.

ANY of the State Parks. Marin has many - Angel Island, Mount Tamalpais, Samuel P Taylor, China Camp, The East Bay Regional Parks - The South Bay has numerous State Parks as well..

I hang at Lake Chabot, Garin/Dry Creek Park, and Del Valle from time to time. They all have some good hanging trees if you are willing to look for them.

I also want to check out the Ohlone Wilderness sometime soon. I hope there are some nice patches of trees to hang from out there.

I get to Palo Alto for work quite a bit. I will reach out to this thread next time I do, to see if anyone is game.
