Canadian supplier of Mara 70 thread?

just thought I'd ask the experts! does anyone know of a supplier in Canada? I can't find the Guttermann Mara 70 anywhere locally or online.

besides ordering from RSBTR or Dutch, DIY gear supply and paying duty/shipping to Canada. I'm ok with that if its my only option, but thought maybe someone would know.

    thanks

I'll be very interested in this thread too...I found some Gutermann thread at Walmart the other day, 100% polyester, but when I compared it to the Mara 70 that I got from Dutch, you can see it's a LOT thinner. So I'm pretty sure the Walmart stuff I got was just regular sew-all thread. I'm going to return it and stick to paying insane duty and exchange unless there's someone out there who knows of a source in Canada.

While it has roughly half the strength of Mara 70, there is nothing wrong with using Gutermann Sew All for hammocks and especially quilts. It's actually a better match for the thin fabrics we use.

I did post on the Canadian suppliers thread about sharing a bulk order from the wholesale supplier but I suspect that may be a little more than you need and I would probably be looking for Tera thread.

Good luck on finding a supplier.

You are unlikely to pay duty if you order by USPS from RSBTR. I just had 25 yards of cordura come in without any taxes.

If you are anywhere near the border, there will usually be a place on the U.S. Side that will accept mail for you. I'm about 45 minutes north of Minnesota and do this all the time. As long as you're not bringing too much across dollar wise, they usually let you through with no duty or taxes

thanks for the input, I'm only about an 1.5 hr drive from the boarder so that's probably my best bet.

I have not ever seen that Mara, but if you need thickness you can get Coats 'n' Clark Upholstery from any fabric supplier, or at least it is in every fabric store here in Edmonton.

FWIW, the C'n'C Upholstery thread is not known to be nearly as high quality as the Gutermann products.
