    Kentucky Camper

Good morning from Kentucky! I've spent a few nights in my hammock in the Appalachians and the back yard. I was a pre-first hammock night convert. After backpacking with two friends in the Ozarks on an off camber tent site I decided it wasn't possible to sleep worse than that. My first night in the hammock I slept as well as i do at home and was hooked. Also, it is always hot and humid here in the summer, and the hammock stretches the possibility of being cool at night vs a tent. I just received an order with enough fabric and Amsteel from Dutch to make two hammocks for my kids and two for some friends. Time to start sewing!

Welcome from SC! I just got back from a mission trip to Big Creek, KY and the whole time I was looking at those Appalachians thinking "what a great place to hang around here" with all the rivers bending through the mountains. Put up some pics when you're done. I'm considering building my own as well but still lack the nerve. GL!

Welcome from Middle Tennessee. I can't agree more with your statement "off camber tent site I decided it wasn't possible to sleep worse than that" and "first night in the hammock I slept as well as i do at home and was hooked".

My wife and I always used to tent camp. In the summers around here it was hot as all get out because the tent hold in so much heat. We never woke up refreshed. It was always "my back hurts", "I have a crick in my neck", "my shoulder hurts", "why the heck did we slide to one side of the tent, I could have sworn out site was flatish". We had an eno and took naps in it when tent camping and I finally found this Forum and everything is history from there. Been through few different hammocks and set ups only a couple years later.

    Best of hanging to you!

Well last weekend I spent the night in my hammock strung up between two jeeps at Adventure Offroad Park in southern TN. It is possible to sleep poorly in a hammock, but that was due to the jeeps, UTVs, and rock bouncers driving past all night long. I neglected to pitch my tarp due to a 0% rain forecast and regretted that decision about 5am when the rain started. All told though still a good weekend.
