Well last year all we looked at was how fast can your system boil 8oz of water. So imagine being the guy or girl that everyone points to and say’s, they boiled a cup of water in 8.3 seconds! So what if that system was as big as a grocery cart, weighs 24 pounds and used a pint of fuel, WHO cares, we’re car camping, 8.3 seconds WOW. But as we are not always car camping I think we need to base a winning cook system on more than just how fast can it boil water, although that is VERY IMPORTANT. What do ya’ll think, should we be looking at everything about it i.e. how compact is it, how much does it weigh, how much fuel does it take to reach boil AND the how fast does it reach boil temp. I have been trying to think of some sort of plus / minus point system that would determine an overall best system, but it’s hard! Which is more important, the one that is the most fuel efficient or weighs the least? By the way mine is over 100 gram’s less than what I had last year. Is being compact more important than being fast? Do we have a winner for each category? I get a headache just thinking about all this, so weather or not you’re going to have a dog in this fight I want your IDEA’S and OPINION’S PLEASE!!!

We don't really need two classes, right? Most DIY gear (esp.cooksets) are for backpacking. I mean... you could bring anything car camping....even an acetylene torch!

Thanks for the input Kat, keep the ideas coming, but I agree with Squid that we should focus in on the backpacking aspect of the alky stoves as that’s what we do unless we’re at some group’s annual get-together. Thinking about this today I thought that for the efficiency test we could use a small amount of fuel, 5 or 10cc or whatever the consensus of the group is and see what temp that amount would raise the water to. What do ya think?

DaddyDaddy, drifter has cheated. He is using a laser spectroscopy to locate the sweet spot of his stoves.

No worries. My mantra has always been, If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin' hard enough. Well, that and Suck it up, Buttercup.

Technology is a great thing, besides a famous man once said:

If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?
