MS > Planning Thread: 2nd Annual MSHA Homochitto National Forest NOV 13 - 14

So by popular demand, basic feedback and the voting prowess of a true Republic, the 2nd Annual MSHA Homochitto National Forest Group Hang is now set for November 13th through 14th.

We will set up in the primitive sites at the Richardson Creek Group Site just as you enter the area from Hey 84. This works really well since there are 12 campsite locations and each site can hold multiple hammocks easily. There is a perfect area at the end of the loop for a group spot to meet, cook and generally lounge in the company of fine hammock minded brethren.

Each site is still $7/night of camping. There has already been a partial list started on group meals. We can state those again for clarity. Most folks will come in on that Friday and some of those will do so late. This date is after we change back from daylight savings time so it will get dark quicker. When you post what you are wanting to do state your preference as to which night you plan to do it.

Kids, spouses and pets are all very welcome. There is hiking in the area. I'm a professional lounger so I will not be jeopardizing my pro status by doing anything overly strenuous but the rest of you are welcome to indulge as you see fit.

There it is team. Post up and get your gear ready. It is on like a chicken bone. You won't want to miss it.

I will be doing More Pork Than Beans aka Hate Beans on Saturday night. My 14 yr old and I will be getting there on Friday just not sure what time. I'm shooting for as early as possible.

I'll have extra dogs and buns for anyone wanting a little something Friday evening. I'm gonna present this to a handful of guys at my church that have just gotten into hanging to see if they want to come. They are musicians all so I'm hoping they will come so we can have some high quality entertainment. This could be as many as a half dozen newbs in attendance.

All you newly minted MS hangers need to know there will be a lot of long timers there to help you, loan a bit of gear here and there, get you dialed in and answer any questions you may have. If you haven't noticed we love talking about hammocks and camping stuff.

    Let's rock and roll team!!!!

Hopefully, I'll be rolling in Friday afternoon, also. Not sure yet if the boys will join me. DD, do you remember the number of the campsite we used for the gathering place? That was a good place for the communal fire ring/cooking area: centrally located. I'll pay for that one again, plus mine. And yes, if anyone needs to borrow gear, I have X-tras. Lemme know what you need.

Squidbilly, I don't remember but we'll make sure we get that squared away. I'll have a couple extra hammocks, plenty of reflectix, and a couple extra sleeping bags along with suspension parts. Amsteel and the like.

Looking to be there Friday as well. It should be fairly early, so I'll start the firewood gathering expedition shortly after arrival. I'm not gonna lie, the anticipation is growing already. The firelight stories should be quite enjoyable if last year was any indication, and with the changes in the past year to my life, I shouldn't be a zombie from lack of sleep this go round.

I really want to try to make this. I am new to hanging and sure I can benefit from some pointers and get to meet some of you. As this would be my first group hang, what do I need to know?

First off that you could not be more welcome. We want as many MS hammock folk as we can get. Second, well, that's pretty much it. Bring yourself and your gear to survive in the piney woods for a couple days. We'll do the rest. Some of us like to cook so that gets morphed into a group meal on Friday or Saturday night. There is a general attitude of what's mine is yours that pervades the time together so if you forget or you lack, someone generally has you covered. Kids and wives are welcome and encouraged. It's a family friendly event. We keep it clean, comb our hair, and only lie when telling stories around the fire. There's hiking in the area, so some do day hikes or just hang out at the group site and swap ideas or nap, a lot. We are camping in the primitive area but a bath house and restrooms is a very short ride or a good stretch of the legs into the park area proper. Wives seem to like that.

Come on up. Jump in where you like and enjoy getting to meet some of the nicest folks you'll want to know, present company excluded but my boy is a Jim dandy fella. You'll like him for sure.
