Leave it to the Shug to come up with the answer. I guess I could shoot them with bird shot and make my own "mesh"......

Guess they updated it here is what it says now.

"Hammock use and any other associated lines may be attached to trees that are minimum of 12 inches in diameter measured at chest height and using a minimum of 2 inch wide flat web straps. Some parks may provide hammock posts instead of trees."

    Thanks Jimmy,
Do you have a link to the reference? Was this specifically for Tomoka or just FL state parks in general? I'd like to have that handy "just in case". This is exactly what I've heard before but the guy on the phone was reading from their reference. I had him read it twice but was trying not to sound like an a$$ on the phone since "mesh" made no sense.

Interesting.....looks like even the FL State folks don't know what their rules are. I'll show up with my 2" wide harbor freight straps and let them tell me "NO"...then ask them to provide a reference.

    Thanks!!

Hah! Not like I see this 2" strap situation becoming a true point of conflict but what Shug said would more than likely be good enough.

I checked with three different Florida state parks while I was RV camping in Jan-Feb 2016. Before I could even ask, every park said to tie nothing to trees. BUT.. when I said "I guess that rules out hanging my hammock", they said, "No problem, but you must use straps at least 1" wide." It used to be 2", but there was a recent rule change. I happily hung my WBBB-XLC hammock at several state parks with no problems. Their biggest concern was people using ropes and cordage that cuts into the trees. Every ranger was very courteous and apologized for the confusion as these things are getting sorted out. BTW, I am seeing more and more hammocks in campgrounds.
