Georgia loop or Bartram/AT loop in June?

It looks like out troop may be heading to Woodruff in North Georgia next summer. Hopefully in early June. I'll most likely just be an extra driver and will try to hit a trail for 5-6 days until returning home.

What 50-60 mile trail would you recommend. From what I've heard the Georgia Loop DRT/AT/BMT is really tough but fun. Is this a terrible time to do it.

The Bartram/AT loop goes through the NOC so that's a plus for that trail.

Just early planning and data gathering. I found a few old trail reports by some hammockers and that's what got me interested. At first I though just get on the AT and head north for 60 miles, but a loop sounds fun.

That time of year it could be cool or hot. Expect to be alone, don't pass up water. With the amount of time your taking, you could still explore a few side trail, or spend a little more time in camp.

It is a tough hike. Could be hot in June, depends, but not unbearable. Water can be scarce on DRT so like Spacelord says do not pass up any water, do some research as some water is hard to find in some places. Lots of ups and downs. Get in good hiking shape. I enjoy the loop and am doing it again this fall.

    Thanks for the comments.

Is the DRT harder than the AT in New Hampshire and Maine? That's about all I have to compare with.

I got my trails mixed up.

CRM is on the Bartram Trail near Warwoman Dell.

There was a rumor of a trail to take you up to the AT, but I don't think that ever happened.

There are a lot of nice hikes near Woodruff, though, so you should be able to find some nice areas.

Yep. Seems like every year the springs move a little further downhill

Georgia loop or Bartram/AT loop in June?

We did Georgia while our scouts were at woodruff this year. Last week of June 2015. If you start at springer on the BMT you could return on the AT for a loop. Water was a little low but not to bad. A thin light under quilt will be needed for the cooler night temps.
The bee's were our biggest problems. Our group put in 12-15 mpd. We are not in great shape. Plan you route with a place to resupply food.
