Best thing I ever did camping wise was get into hammocks about 10 years ago. This opened the many options of "where to sleep" that just isn't available with tents. There are so many more places to hang with better scenery. When you get to your campsite, just spend a bit of time walking the trails around the camp and you'll usually always find a neat spot to hang, oftentimes either overlooking or right by the water, which I prefer. Doesn't matter if the ground is level or rocky, cuz I'm not laying on it. I've woke at daybreak to peek out and see a raft of loons going crazy with their water dance and songs. I've woke to otters in their seeming endless play, splashing and wrestling, with the rest of the troop tucked back into the woods mud wrestling on the tent sites - except for my kid and me, hanging on a hill about 20 feet from the water's edge. I can still see my daughter's grin at me peeking out from her hammock when she quietly said, "Damned loons woke me up!"Knife.jpg
