We did this hike/camp last fall. registered at the Kiosk in the parking lot but, we never saw a Park Ranger the three nights we were there.... or a single person until we were on our way down from Raven Point. The campsite was nice and there was plenty of firewood gathered by other campers. It is also fairly close to a house and you can hear some dogs at times. Camp area had maybe 7 different sites and a very uninviting outhouse. There wasn't much privacy between each campsite but, we had it all to ourselves. There is about a 1/4 mile hike to a small creek for water, which is where we noticed an open bunk house. There was a flyer on it with a number. If you walk down the gravel road.... there is a closed off access to a very long descending set of steps that lead to the bottom of the waterfall. The boulders on the trail out were more of a maze than a trail. Made for interesting hiking with a pack on. The blazes are there just keep your eyes open. The parking lot has a nice restroom area and there is a rangers house next to it. Actually left my doors unlocked and wallet in the console but, all was fine. This was a great hike and it is a shame that it will not be the same. If you want to see some pics I have them uploaded in my profile.
I sleep better in my hammock. So, I guess if I'm gonna be a bear burrito...... I might as well be a well rested one.

Nice pics. Where are those stairs at? Looks easy going down!

just remember you have to get backpacking camping permits online now. There is a fee now to camp at the primitive sites http://tnstateparks.com/parks/campgr...uth-cumberland

I somehow missed this sad news. The gizzard is a fine trail. I will keep on top of the situation and see if there is anything we can do. THanks Ewker.
