Not directly you, but yes, your comment along with others I'd heard of. Clearly, this is in the HYOH category. I'm not one to judge, and perhaps my comment was somewhat judgmental, so apologies for that.

For me, stakes mean the freedom of not having to search for stuff to use for tieouts. Its minor weight for major use. I lost mine on a hike one day, left the bag when I was hurrying to get out of camp. Used rocks as anchors and tied off to some trees. Its easily enough done, for sure. For me and my HYOH, its not worthwhile to not at least have them.

Someday we should plan to meet on the trail.

Your story about forgetting your stakes is what happened to me. Funny how similar experiences led us down different paths. It is definitely a hyoh thing. We all view our choices as making our lives easier, more comfortable, or enjoyable.

Toaks Ti stakes. The way I use them so as not to leave them behind is, I tie my guy line to the stake and attach with Dutch fleaz. The guy lines attached make it much less likely to leave a stake behind. I have more of a chance of leaving a tree strap than a stake now.

That way the person who finds your forgotten/lost stake gets a guyline too!

    (BTW, I do the same...)

I like my steaks cooked medium well and having a bacon-wrapped filet the first night out on the trail is a treat . For stakes, I use the MSR mini-groundhog and Toaks Ti stakes, but I like the idea of simplicity, and if I can tie off to a tree or make a deadfall with an old log, that's my first choice. Sometimes I'll add some Lea & Perrrins to my steak, but avoid it on the titanium.

To those using the groundhog minis, did you pick them over the regular groundhogs because they are shorter or weigh less? I think it's 1.5" and 3g difference.

Hey Michigandave I love bacon-wrapped filets medium rare please. Usually a sharp stick in the ground works for me, and it's good for getting rid of vampires or cooking filets I like multi purpose.

A potent tenderizer might be better on the Ti anyway...
