    New Thread Injector

So yesterday I used my girlfriends injector to inject for the first time. I made a ridgeline organizer and a stuff sack. It was surprisingly easy. This morning, my mom got the old Morse 5401 out of the garage. My grandmother was a seamstress for 60 something years, and this is one of the machines she gave to my mom. It seems pretty awesome. All Metal parts. Only problem is it seems locked up it will only hand turn so far forward or backward but no full revolution... I oiled it based on the manual(yes it even had the manual) to no avail. Any advice ? I don't think it has been used in 20 years at least. Obviously it needs servicing. Does anyone have any info on it? I researched but couldn't find much. I'm also missing the pedal and wondering if I can use a universal one.

Advice from my wife, who is a seamstress: if the needle is going down into the stitch plate (the metal plate with the hole for the needle) and stopping then something might be out of alignment in the bobbin case. A full service on this machine should probably run you somewhere around $60-$80 according to her.

Don't strong arm it. Open anything that can be opened and watch what happens when you hand turn the flywheel. If it is a bobbin conflict you should be able to see what is going on. An other problem may be some corrosion internally. If you are lucky enough to see inside see what goes on. Again... don't strong arm it. IMO machines of this type are worth having a service on by a pro.

You can take the needle out and try to turn it. If it is a bobbin conflict it should turn fine. Just make a careful note of how the needle came out so you can put it back in properly.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

There is a chance that thread in the bobbin/hook area is catching the hook and locking the machine. Follow the manual to remove the bobbin and hook and thoroughly clean the area.

You can quickly tell if the needle hitting anything by removing the needle and see if the machine rotates freely.

A universal remote will work if you can find the correct cord/plug that matches your machine.
