    Top quilt between hammock layers

Does anyone temporarily store the top quilt in between the hammock layers of a double layer? Just to get it out of the way while you're lounging in the hammock on a warm day? That way it kind of gets to fluff up instead of being in the stuff sack.

I tried it but couldn't get over the feeling it was causing abrasion on the quilt. Would I be better off just laying in top of the quilt? Oversized peak bag?

Couldn't you just loosen the suspension of the UQ a lot to create a gap between it and the bottom of the hammock. That would negate its warming ability, allow it to gain loft, and keep it out of the way.

Or drape it over your hammock suspension

I would think this is the last thing I would do with my TQ. The layers of a double are not made with a gap for this. You would be compressing the TQ and rubbing it at the same time.

This is what I do also. It keeps it out of the way, helps dry if condensation from the night, and keeps it lofted whether down or synthetic.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I'm not sure I'm getting the situation, but regardless, there is no reason to keep stuffing it back in a small stuff sack when you're not using it. Agreed that you can drape it over the ridgeline, or put it in your empty backpack, or just another larger bag as needed. But if you want it to fluff a little when you're not lounging in the hammock AND you have a tarp over it, but you want it somewhat protected from blowing stuff - in addition to the tarp - then yeah, you could lay it out in the layers, I see no real problem with that.

Thanks, everyone. Ya, draping it over the hammock ridgeline under the tarp sounds like the best option.

Ever consider bringing a second hammock for lounging? If you're not too conscious about weight, carrying a light weight second hammock can be useful. It is mobile so you can move it to more scenic spots around camp or take it on a day hike or use it for breaks on the trail. It's also handy to put your extra gear somewhere and can be a back up of sorts to your primary hammock either in part for it's suspension or if there is a catastrophic failure. Just a thought.

Bubba, that's a good idea. Maybe justify getting that dutch argon hammock I've been thinking about.

There ya go. I usually take a second hammock on canoe trips. My Grand Trunk Nano has even seen a backpacking trip. I'm not overly weight conscious but the extra weight of my second hammock has been worth it to me.

When lounging around I store my quilt in a SLD gear hammock underneath the hammock. Paul at AHE makes a hammock chair small and lightweight to carry.
