CAREFUL!!!
The ones from Tractor Supply ate my hammock.
I've sworn never to do any but aluminum again. Bought six the last time I passed REI. At 14 kilonewtons, should be no problem unless I decide to park my car in my hammock.

SMC rings at Summit Hut
Super light weight, super strong.

I get both the descender rings and climbing carabiners from Mountain Gear. They have light weight aluminum decsender rings in 1 1/2" and rated carabiner "seconds" with cosmetic flaws for only a few dollars. In fact, all of the carabiners that I have purchsed from them (12) were "seconds" and I never could find the cosmetic flaws. Shipping on orders under $50.00 is $4.95 and they ship next day. I checked Summit Hut and the prices are about the same, I just have always done business with Mountain Gear and have been very happy with their products and fast shipping.

I've used sling rings so far with no problems. The manufacturer says they break at a little over 2000lbs. Website says 250 tested, but one of our fellow forum members spoke with them and was told the actual number was over 2k.
So far they've held my 220lb butt with no problems My 40lb child has jumped up and down in the hammock with me in it as well.
Sure the SMG's are probably the best, but I think they're overkill. You can't beat the price and utility of the slingrings.
Just my opinion. Good luck with the project!!
