    MODS looking for your feedback

I am kicking around an idea for a new forum here to replace the current PIF forum which is pretty much a dead zone. First off let me say this idea may or may not ever get off the ground. If it does or does not really depends on your feedback. If there is no interest in it, then it won't move forward. If there is a lot of interest and we can figure out how to dot all the "I" and cross all the "T" then it will move forward.

What I am kicking around is called Karma Market. What it amounts to is a place to give away items you no longer need or want. Kind of like Pay It Forward (PIF) but with no spreadsheet, no need to post a return item, no moderation beyond the general market place rule of needing 50 posts before you can post or claim an item, and an honor system of not claiming more than 1 item every 3 days. The only moderation done will be for the 50 post rule which is automated and the general TOS items. We will not track who posts, who claims, or any of the other things that are currently moderated in PIF. This would pretty much be a self moderated give away area. As with the general Market place rules only "outdoor" gear can be given away.

So please give me your feedback. Is this of interest to you or not? Do you think it will work? If not, why not? Is there a way to make it work? Is there something you think needs to be added to it or taken away from it?

I feel like some people might take advantage of this.

    A few things.

First, I think it's awesome that feedback is being sought by the moderation team. VERY awesome.

Second, the original PIF idea was nice but it was essentially "buy a thing with another thing." I assume the current iteration is the same. That said, I always felt like that defeated the purpose of "pay it forward" as a way to offer a kindness to somebody instead of a barter system. This, to me, is EXACTLY in the spirit of paying it forward. No spreadsheet, no returns required (but hopefully there will be), and if it doesn't work what have you lost if the current system is already dead? If somebody has been found to be outside the conditions (let it be self-moderated) by the users, the person at fault can be reported to you (presumably since you're the current PIF mod) and you can look and see if they really HAVE been claiming more than is allowed.

A simpler system that yes, is open to being taken advantage of but I strongly suspect that anybody participating as a giver is doing so with the best of intentions and not looking to see if their offering is being taken advantage of. Anybody claiming something is presumably in need or can use the item offered. Like Deb said, it's the honor system - the company I work for has operated on that system successfully for 30 years.
I used to be a somebody, now I just camp.

Seems logical that it should be easier to give stuff away. I am sure it will be abused by those that will hang on its every post. 3 days seems to short. Definitely seems easier then the pif.

I believe that the poster should have the option of who they give it to, not the first "I will take it" rule
