Video: OR > Mt Hood Wilderness> Timberline/PCT/Salmon River Loop

This video shows how to do a 36-mile loop hike starting at Timberline Lodge, down the PCT, NW on the Jackpot Meadows Tr, then W on the Salmon River Trail. Several hammock views including my hang on Lower Twin Lk, and a video tour of my campsite on the beautiful Salmon River.

One of the great things about this hike is that it is 100% doable via public transit from Portland. Max to Gresham, Sandy bus to Sandy Transit Center, and the Mt Hood Express up to Timberline. On the way back I picked up the Mt Hood Express at Welches. This is a real bargain: $2.50 for Max, $1 for SAM, and $2 for Mt Hood Express for a whopping sum of $5.50. Figure 2.5-3 hours on transit depending on where in Portland you start.

This hike has a little bit of everything: Hood views at the start, PCT through-hikers (you are hiking against the flow), meadows along Jackpot, and then miles of the beautiful Salmon River and its gorge.

    Enjoy!

Man, great vid! Would love to get out to the PNW at some point. This only fuels the fire!

Nice trip. That campsite by the river looked nice. I wish I was a hammocker when I used to live in Portland. Seems like a good fit.

Looks like a great trek. Your second night campsite looked pretty decent. Using public transport is an interesting alternative. Thanks for sharing.
