    DD Underblanket and laying diagonal

    Hi,

I had a look at some underquilt shapes and saw the DD underblanket, which is not square in shape but rather rounded towards the head and foot area.

What I was wondering is. If you lay diagonally in your hammock, especially one with a footbox like the Warbonnet or the Woodsman X, won't your feet or either your one shoulder get cold?

Because of the shape of this particular uq, I would image that it won't be able to cover your entire shoulder especially when resting diagonally and at the same time your feet. Who has any experience with this uq? Especially when used with either a Warbonnet or a Woodsman X and can enlighten me?

I have wondered this myself, as it is the underquilt I am most interested in. The price is great for the temp rating they claim their comfort rating is.

I want to make my own uq and was looking at some "official" ones to see shapes and sizes and saw this shape and was rather confused by it.

It looks like it would be impossible, when laying diagonally in my hammock, to have this uq beneath both my feet and my leftshoulder. The shape of this uq, to me, makes it look like you have to choose either having your feet protected OR your shoulder. Not both.

sounds like the same thing with a 3/4 UQ. i would opt for a UQ with a full-sized rectangle shape, just because...well...who wants to choose which part of them is going to be cold? makes sense if your feet stay hot or something, but even the PLUQ i built (totally different design than everywhere else) covers my shoulderS and feet.

Looks to me like that shape would cause issues with the suspension.

It works great, but it's not ideal. I've used mine on my HH/Thunderbird/Yukon Double/Dutch11. I'm 6'. This covers my feet and shoulder, and I have a pillow for my head. If they made a full rectangle-shaped under-blanket for about the same price I think they'd have a real winner on their hands.

have one and use it for my main daily UQ (sleep full time in a hammock) and tried to use it outside a few times at 6' I do not find it fits my feet and shoulder well at all ? for me choose one not both but its close
when we go camping my kids use it though since he is just 6 he fits it easy

I also redid the suspension which helped some still not bad for the $

again always say this is just MY thoughts and one should always try out things themselves of course

I suppose it depends how broadshouldered one is and how diagonally one lays as well, if it fits both shoulders and at the same time your feet. The advantage of this shape is that it saves some weight on material.

The DD underblanket is long. 2m. I use it with a BB XLC without issue. It has extra shock cord to put over your ridgeline and I find that's what keeps it in place. I just tug on the cord to get it in the right spot on my feet and shoulders and it's good. I side sleep though so maybe that's why it works for me
